2.0 out of 5 stars Hard to install, too big for rear-facing, July 5, 2011

We bought this seat for my daughter to use both in the rear- and forward-facing positions. Unfortunately, it was incredibly hard to install and we could never get it to the proper reclining angle to use rear-facing. I even had the seat professionally installed at a carseat check station--the tech said that this seat was notoriously difficult to install. After he put a pool noodle under the base, it still wasn't properly reclined. When my daughter fell asleep in the car, she would be so uncomfortable--her head would drop forward and it would keep waking her up. To get it to the proper reclining angle, we had to have the passenger seat in our Outback so forward that my husband couldn't sit there comfortably. So, we're returning it.

We got this seat in a different colour nearly two years ago for our then 4 month old son, who was already outgrowing his infant seat. We've loved it since then!

When we purchased the seat we drove an 02 Kia Rio, and it was BIG for that car, I will admit - we couldn't put it in the middle of the rear seat because we would have had to move both front seats way forward, and as I am 6'0 and my husband is 6'3, we really couldn't move the driver's side seat forward. So it did make sitting in the passenger front seat a little uncomfortable at that point. However, about a year and a half ago we switched to a minivan, and it fit wonderfully there rear-facing! We turned it to forward facing when our son's legs got too long to fit comfortably rear-facing, and it's been wonderful since then.

We've gone on several very long trips, including one 3-day one-way, 8-12hrs per day, trip to Cleveland for a wedding. My son sat in this seat very comfortably for the entire drive. By...Read more

BEWARE

This seat was rated NOT RECOMMENDED by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety in both 2009 and 2011. See the 2011 statement here: [...]

When I learned of this, I contacted the manufacturer to ask for a replacement seat and their response was this:
"We do understand your concerns regarding the report published by IIHS. The car seat you have meets and exceeds all requirements by NHTSA. Your seat is safe to use and will perform as intended in the event of a collision. A replacement of your seat is not an option. Please visit[...] to view our response regarding the IIHS findings. It is also very important when purchasing a booster seat to ensure the fit is appropriate for your child."
