Product Description
The ultimate travel system, the Primo Viaggio Car Seat / Infant Carrier serves several important functions, all designed around the comfort and safety of your child. The infant car seat with 5-point harness can be used as an infant carrier when you're not in the car. When you're ready to travel, simply secure the seat to the stay-in-car base (included, not pictured). When you get to where you're going, simply detach the seat from the base and lock it into the special car seat anchors on your Peg Perego stroller (sold separately). Stylish upholstery removes easily for machine washing. Accommodates babies up to 20 pounds. Complies with federal NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Association) standards. Editorial Review
A good infant car seat should offer four key features: safe design, comfort for the occupant, convenience for the parents, and a stylish appearance. The Chesapeake model from Peg Pérego comes through on all counts. It features a five-point harness system to keep young ones firmly in place, ample padding all around, and an additional halo pad to cradle baby's head (perfect for dozing off on long car trips). The seat is equipped with LATCH, a car seat system mandated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that requires points of anchorage on the top and bottom of the car seat base. Despite its firm anchoring, this car seat also detaches easily for toting. It's upholstered in a neutral gray fabric, and also sports a retractable canopy. --Alice Merritt

Summary: Not happy with car seat or Peg Perego's services 2006-06-27
Comment: Car seat fabric has hole and tag is fraying after only 4-5 months. Peg Perego basically said they wouldn't do anything about it because the date on the bottom of the carseat says 2004 even though I recieved it brand new from the store. Also , I have the Venenzia stroller and the Peg Perego sticker peeled off (I hardly use the stroller.) I've heard that the stickers peel off a lot.

Summary: My daughter hates the Primo Viaggio car seat 2006-03-14
Comment: My daughter is 4 months old and for the past 3 months, she screams each and every time we put her into her infant car seat. She seems to be squished and bent in an awkward position. The whole process of putting her into this seat and taking her out is just impossible. The handle on my seat is so difficult to move back and forth; only my husband has the strenght to do it. So when I have to take her out, I have to take her out of the seat horizontally so that she doesn't bump her head on the handle. I went back to the store where I purchased the car seat and stroller because I assumed that there was something wrong with my seat but I found out that they were all like this. I am really disappointed. It is so annoying that it is just easier to stay home than to take her out in this seat.

Summary: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY 2006-01-07
Comment: This car seat was not worth the extra money. My son was just over 8 lbs when born and had outgrown this seat by the time he was barely 4 months old. This seat is very narrow and deep in comparision to other infant carseats. He also was wet with sweat everytime I took him out of it (he only wore 100% cotton clothing). The sun shade when retracted rests a couple of inches from the top of the seat, instead of at the top of the seat, taking up head room. This seat is just too expensive for such a short use. I would NOT advise anyone to purchase this seat.

Summary: Very Safe, But Very Expensive 2006-01-07
Comment: We got this car seat to go with the Pliko P3 stroller. We liked the fact that there were anchors in the seat of the stroller for the car seat to attach to, rather than attaching to the tray like other strollers. We thought that this was safer and would not cause the stroller to be top- heavy. We also loved the way it would just snap in and out.
While our son was in this car seat, we felt that he was very safe. We liked how the LATCH feature worked to secure the base and also the knob on the base to adjust it to the right level. We have a Toyota 4 Runner and my parents have a Honda CRV and Element and we had no problems adjusting the base to fit perfectly in all of the vehicles. There was also a lot more padding in it which we thought would 1. make him more comfortable and 2. make it safer.
However, by the time our son was 3 months old, at 17 pounds, we had to replace it with a convertible car seat. He just wasn't comfortable and we could no longer lift it. He was arching his back and fussing a lot. We went back to Babies R Us and got the Evenflo Triumph DLX and he loves it.
Bottom Line:
We loved the car seat while we were using it. It seemed "cushy" and also stood up to washing. It worked wonderfully with the Pliko stroller and latched onto it securely.
It is very costly and from what I've seen, Graco's handle is cushier and the seat seems to be a little wider which holds babies that are heavier. You also cannot use this car seat without the base which means you either have to keep moving the base from car to car or buy another base, which is pretty costly also.
I don't regret buying this car seat, but I wish we had been able to use it longer.
