Summary: safer than any booster seat 2007-01-10
Comment: My oldest child outgrew her convertible car seat at age 2, so we bought her the Britax Marathon. However, she reached the maximum height for that one at age 4. When I found this seat, I was thrilled. Rated to 56 inches and 80 lbs, it has a five-point harness and a tether. I have read horrible statistics on seat belt failure, tensioner failure, kids leaning forward at the exact moment of impact...nothing can guarantee your child's safety in a crash, but being in a car seat is much safer than being in a booster seat.
My daughter is nearly five now, and LOVES her seat. It's very comfortable, lots of padding, plenty of room to sit cross-legged. She can rest her head on the sides of the seat, can sit with her clipboard or drawing pad on her lap, keeping her water bottle nearby in the mesh bags on the seat's sides.
Other reviewers discussed the size of the seat. I don't find it to be any taller than my other Britax seat, because this one has no base. I have it installed in the rear passenger side seat, and it creates no blind spot. I cannot fit a car seat in between my two Britax seats, but I couldn't fit one there with a booster seat and any other convertible car seat, either. Yes, it's big, and yes, I have an SUV, but it also fits in my husband's Grand Prix. It will not fit in the third row of my SUV.
It was easy to install, although the installation instructions were different than any of the other 7 car seats I've owned in the last 5 years. The only drawback is that, like all Britax seats, you must remove the car seat to adjust the height of the harness straps. But for me, this is not a problem because it's not like you have to adjust them often.
Great seat, can't put a price on safety.

Summary: Good seat - just BIG 2005-09-04
Comment: Very big seat. Not recommended unless you have a full size SUV. I have an Expedition and my Britax Roundabout convertible seat will not fit right next to this seat (in the middle of the second row seat). So, if you like to ride in the back with your kids when someone else is driving, there isn't enough room for two seats and an adult. Other than that it is comfortable and easy for my son to climb into by himself. I feel he is very safe in it.
