We bought this item in a store for a lot more than it costs now (they have a newer version)
It is big but worth the piece mind!
We have the same issue with the seatbelts on the side seats, but we just move the car seat out of the middle to a window seat when we have passengers.
I did a lot of research and britax seats are the best and safest in my opinion.
People complain about having to reach under the child to buckle them in-but once they are that big-it says to remove the "infant positioning pillow" and that solves the problem! There is also a circle of cloth by the buckle that u put between the child and the buckle to make that more comfortable for the child. That helps too.
I like the adjustable head support-so u know your child's head is properly centered, supported, and cushioned in the event of an accident.
My only complaint is that u have to take the seat completely apart to clean the cover, and it's hard to find a removable cover to...Read more

I bought this as i thought it was the best. but it's so big that passengers in the back can't access the receiver for their seatbelt (and the police installed our seat so it's installed correctly), and every time i put my child in the carseat, we both struggle to get him in properly. the crotch buckle is very low and doesn't move, so you are always grabbing under your child's crotch to try to make the buckle clasp and it's very awkward. the much cheaper car seat i bought for my nanny is a breeze to use
